Save Time – Date Your Realtor?

I realize this post has absolutely nothing to do with the actual business of real estate, but since I’m hot off the heels of my last eHarmony blog post, and recent conversations with fellow real estate agents centered around their dating life, I started thinking: Could Real Estate replace eHarmony as the new way to meet your next love?

The “Flow” Principle

It has often been said that consumers do business with people with whom they’re in flow.  By this, I mean that people prefer to associate with others with whom they have things in common.  Call it the pack mentality.  We are attracted to people that share the same interests, right?  If you think about your last real estate transaction, do you remember how you met your agent?  Was it someone you knew previously through your child’s play group or sports program?

Office Romances

Let’s face it, it’s hard to find romance these days, even with all the technology at our fingertips. Blame it on work, since many people spend more time at work than ever before.  That leaves less time for dating (or searching out potential mates).  According to a careerbuilder.com survey, 40% of respondents to the survey acknowledged dating a co-worker.  I wonder if a similar survey were conducted on real estate agents, what the percentages would be?  I also wonder what percentage of real estate agents have dated their clients?

Meet Your Honey Where You Make Your Money

My parents met at work.  They were happily married for 32 years until one of them passed away.  What still baffles me to this date, is how they were able to make it last.  They carpooled to work together for 15 years.  They came home and talked about work at the dinner table. Most of their friends were co-workers.

My designated broker is married to another real estate agent. They’ve been happily married for many years now, and certainly understand the long and odd work hours that are involved in real estate.

My past partners never understood the long hours I spent with clients.  They never liked the phone calls at odd hours from distraught clients, worried about the upcoming closing of their home.  Maybe if they had been a previous client of mine, they could have better appreciated what I do for a living.

What Makes Us Realtors A Great Catch!

We are compassionate, understanding, patient, and have nice cars.  Let’s face it, we are like therapists on wheels.  You share your needs with us, we listen patiently as we show you 50+ homes.  We answer your calls at midnight when you can’t sleep because you’re worried about the movers coming the next day and the current sellers still haven’t moved out.  We drive nice, clean BMWs or Lexuses or Mercedes Benzs.  What more could you ask for?  Oh yeah, that lack of money issue that currently plagues most real estate agents in this current housing market.  Well, I guess you can’t have it all…

What do you think? Would you date your Realtor assuming he/she (and you) were single?
